Sunday the weather was nice, clear and sunny, windy depending on where you stood. We made the trip over to the property to check on things and see how bad the flooding was, this time.
It’s promising how the greens are brightening across the meadows, clover growing with the promise of blooms to come. My honey bees will be content soon, especially since some of the trees are beginning to bud out too. Hopefully I will be able to harvest honey from the hive by summer.

We took the side-by-side around the inner non flooded areas, jumping a few deer along the way. Since the ditches are flooded, they have to cross water or cross by us, and they chose the water path across the ditch, then across the field with flags a flying.

We went up to the crest of the valley and took down the hunting blind left from this winter, returning the view to pristine.
Next stop, the back lake was filled to the brim with spring rains, so a few casts for bass was a must. The Canadian Geese are calling this lake home and we tend to have several who raise goslings when it’s a bit warmer too. After several casts in the brisk breeze, it was time to move down to the next spot.

The middle lake sits further down the basin, and where I usually choose to fish, near the spillway to the lower lake. The sound of the running water of the spillway was somehow comforting, while I cast out towards the deeper water. Even with changing lures, there was little action on the end of the pole, but I noticed the medium size fish making ripples where I disturbed the grass bed in the shallower waters. I couldn’t help but notice the snapping turtle nose peeking out of the water, we have lots of them.

After stowing the rods back in Kubota the side-by-side, we made our way down to near the spillway of the lower lake. Once again, the water was up, and I was grateful for the areas where I had been able to mow very close to the water making it easier to get closer to the soggy banks. A few casts in, I got lucky and landed a medium size bass. It was out of the water long enough to take a “first of this year picture”, then back in the water he went. Hope we meet again when he’s bigger.

By this time, my back was acting up and standing upright wasn’t comfortable anymore, so it was time to stow the gear and head for home. Till next time…practice a little everyday courage in your own way.
